The Sphinx, Giza, Egypt

This ancient sculpture image shows one of the most famous examples of Egypt. It is not possible to travel to Egypt and not visit and photograph the pyramids and the Sphinx in Giza, Egypt. The Sphinx is a mythological creature with lion’s body and a human head.The Sphinx found in Giza, Egypt is the oldest known monumental sculpture. It measures some 73.5 meters in length,is six meters wide and 66 meters in height.

This digital image of the Great Sphinx was created in the Old Kingdom, during the Fourth Dynasty in the years 2558 – 2532 B.C. Located on the Giza Plateau, at the Necroplis which was the royal burial ground for Memphis. It is situated towards the eastern end of the causeway leading to the Pyramid of Khafre. The Great Sphinx is sculpted in situ from an outcrop of limestone, and the human head is thought to represent that of the Pharoah Khafre.
